WALESKA, Georgia - WVU Tech wrestling competed at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Duals against host Reinhardt University, St. Andrews University, Bluefield College, Truett-McConnell and Montreat College Saturday. The competition took place in Waleska where the Golden Bears opened up their 2020-2021 season.
The closest match-up was between Tech and the Rams of Bluefield where the Golden Bears fell 24-22. Freshmen Cairo Henderson Stewart (149 lbs., 5:44) and Mark Rodgers (165 lbs, 1:23) both earned falls over their opponents. Sophomore Jacob Thomas grappled to an 11-1 major decision at 184 lbs. for the Gold and Blue.
Points via bout were also earned in the loss to St. Andrews (31-11) when senior Jephte Jean Paul recorded a fall (2:56) at 174 lbs. and Thomas posted a technical fall (21-5, 7:00).
WVU Tech was blanked by Reinhardt (52-0), Montreat (53-0) and Truett-McConnell (57-0).
The Golden Bears are scheduled to return to the mat Sunday, January 24 when they travel to Southwest Virginia Community College.
