WEST VIRGINIA MAT THOUGHTS
by Dr. Bill Welker
... on Thoughts for Staying Humble
There are many things I have said and done over my lifetime (or forgot to say and do) that I wish I could change, but I can't.
The following are examples of personal experience that have taught me "humility":
- 1. Losing in the PA state finals by a score of
4 to 3 my senior year in high school.
- 2. Learning at the University of Pittsburgh that
I was a good wrestler, not a "great" one.
- 3. Failing French IV in college.
- 4. Receiving help and kindness when many of my cars
broke down over the years.
- 5. Coaching more losing than winning teams in
wrestling.
- 6. Making some very serious mistakes as a coach and
and official.
- 7. Falling short, too often, as a husband and
father.
- 8. Knowing that many of my fears have yet to be
conquered.
- 9. Taking for granted the price that thousands of
Americans have paid for the "freedom" that I
enjoy.
- 10. Forgetting to thank God for all of my blessings
each and every night.
This list is far from complete, but I am sure that you get my point. In essence, a deep, introspective realization of our being, experiences and surroundings truly breeds a humble heart!
