Harrisville Named 1941 State High School Wrestling Champion

March 4, 1941
Washington Junior High School Gymnasium, Parkersburg, WV.

Harrisville was named the State Champion team in 1941, on the basis of having the best dual meet record of all the high school teams in the state. The final match of the season took place on March 4, 1941.

Floyd "Ben" Schwartzwalder later became head football coach at Syracuse University1948-1973. Schwartzwalder was a graduate of Huntington High in '29. Besides coaching at Parkersburg, he coached at Sistersville High School in '34 & '35. While coaching at Parkersburg in 1937, he coached Leland Merrill, who was later a national champion at Michigan State and bronze medalist at the London Olympics in 1948.
