AAA 2016 / 2017 Regions vs. Top 10 Teams

Using the most current team rankings against the newest regional alignments, here is what we got:

Region 1: One top ten team.

Region 2: ZERO top ten teams.

Region 3: Three top ten teams.

Region 4: Five top ten teams. #1, #2, #3, #4 and #6

Twenty-some years ago, this was the case in Region 1 quite often.

Take the 1994 state tournament, for example. Here are the Region 1 teams and how they finished at the state tournament.

Wheeling Park 4
John Marshall 7
Brooke 8
Weir 12
Oak Glen 20

And I can't remember if it was that year or 1995 that the top 5 kids in one of the lower weight classes were all Region 1 wrestlers, so one of them had to stay home.
