HUNTINGTON / CABELL MIDLAND MATCH

Postby TrueSouthFanInPburg » Thu Jan 07, 2016 11:21 pm

Huntington beat Cabell Midland tonight 47-21. So much for Cabell beating South at the state. Huntington had wins from 106-bowan-pin, 113-adkins-(12-2), 120-stewart-(4-2), 132-jeffers-pin, 138-PARDE-(16-0), 160-johnson-(17-5), 170-minihan-(3-2), 195-hutchinson-(9-0), 220-mills-forfeit and 285-mccoy-forfeit. LANHAM WAS AT 145.

Yeah ... Interesting outcome since it was stated earlier on this site that " CM may well have 7 wrestlers in the state finals". Guess they were just being supportive ... I don't blame them.

Wondering why Midland did not wrestle the last two weights? They appeared to have guys warming up but after Huntington locked it down they forfeited last two weights. Looked like they just quit .

It's a curse! HHS always seems to have Midland's number ... No matter the coach, wrestlers, location, etc. I remember way back in the late 90's when Midland was ranked 1st in the state , they went to South and handed the Patriots their first home loss in like a dozen years 42-30. This was despite their returning state champ Jason Ward getting upset by Josh Dearth and their returning runner up Jared Walters getting beat by Matt (?) Bosley. Losing those two they thought they would win and still beat South. Then Midland turns right around and loses to Huntington 32-30 at Midland. Just one of those things ... I have seen Midland a couple of times this year and all credit to Huntington but Midland is better than they showed last night. Huntington just seemed to want it more and Midland's juggled line up did not respond. I am sure Coach Sargent will be working to fix things. As usual, Coach Archer got the best possible wrestling out of his kids. Their young ones really stepped up. Should be interesting at regions when you throw St.Albans, Point, etc. into the mix.

I believe that South went on to win the state tournament that year also Jim.

Yep, sure did! My post was no reflection on South just pointing out how sometimes rankings, etc. get thrown out the window in rivalry matches.

Looks like CM was without some guys?
Isnt their 106 #1 ranked...and didnt wrestle?
And forfeited several of the upper weight classes. Im assuming they typically have guys in those weights.
Still, good solid win for Huntington.
