Reclassification

Postby Mike Kay » Tue Mar 05, 2024 11:22 am

The talk in the stands this past weekend was wrestling not effected by AAAA classification but some schools going to be reclassified in AAA and AA-A. Anyone which schools and regions that will be affected?

If they keep the cut for AAA at 800, then just Point would move to AAA and Ripley to AA. If they move the cut line to 775/750 then Hoover, Nitro, Point, Fairmont, Winfield, and Shady all move to AAA.

One of the interesting perspectives is that school population size does not always equate to wrestling talent on the mat.

I agree that region 1 doesn’t really get help from this. They probably need to juggle some schools between regions.

Just to be clear, that is not Point's number 8-11. That's 7-12. Their number is much closer to 700.

These numbers are inaccurate. Nitro (.44), winfield (.43), fairmont (.42), Hoover(.43) , shady(.43) all bigger than point looking at enrollment scores on the competitive balance formula, as well as the total scores also.

Ripley comes in at at .43 enrollment score and have a lower total acore than everyone mentioned above except point. pleasant.

is competitive balance used in factoring the 3 class system? I had it in my head it was only in the 4 class and 3 class was enrollment only.

That’s a good question boxer. Not 100% sure on that. But for argument sake the enrollment score would still be representative of the enrollment for each school. So with that, what the initial poster was talking about would be incorrect. point wouldn’t be the first to move to AAA in that instance as nitro Winfield Hoover shady Fairmont all are bigger enrollments. But , depending where they draw the line they could all go up i suppose.

All i know is some info and transparency from the WVSSAC would be nice.

So with that, what the initial poster was talking about would be incorrect. point wouldn’t be the first to move to AAA in that instance as nitro Winfield Hoover shady Fairmont all are bigger enrollments. But , depending where they draw the line they could all go up i suppose.

All i know is some info and transparency from the WVSSAC would be nice.

rumor i heard is FIrst week of May is when we will hear.

That’s a good question boxer. Not 100% sure on that. But for argument sake the enrollment score would still be representative of the enrollment for each school. Bridgeport is moving down to AAA. Not surprising but ridiculous. Princeton has well.

How will wrestling do it? Will they have a AAAA, AAA and then AA/A together? Hope somehow it stays to two classes. Quad and triple in one class and double and single in the other.

The state isn’t deep enough to have more than two classes in wrestling.

Wrestling is not getting the 4 class system. at least that is what everyone is hearing.

I don’t mind if there’s 10 classes, but we need to make it one state tournament. We are too small to have two divisions

It is my understanding that wrestling will stay AAA & AA-A for the time being with some schools possibly moving up and others moving down. Additionally, being that they just finished the girls state basketball tournament and are in the middle of the boys state basketball tournament I do not expect to see anything released until mid-April at the very earliest.

A BUNCH of those do not have wrestling and at least one school with wrestling is left out. Doesn't look like the author was looking at it from a wrestling perspective.

Would someone with the knowledge of who has wrestling teams and who doesn't take time to list them for someone who is not familiar at all with these schools

It's rather easy, one just has to look at each regional and the teams entering wrestlers this season and then write down the teams participating.

You previusly said this was a draft proposal from another message board. Is this just a list that some random person proposed? In any case, taking points scored, for example from Fairmont Senior, in a completely different tournament and adding these to points other teams scored in a different tournament is meaningless information.
