Dutton award winner ?
In my opinion it's a two person race with Hart and Adams. Who do y'all think should get it
Re: Dutton award winner ?
If it were any other year Jacob Hart would win the Dutton hands down. This year, however you have one of the best wrestlers to ever come out of this state in Noah Adams. His in state accomplishments plus his success on a national and with the Pan Am games, an international level puts him in a class allhia own . I believe Noah Adams should win the Dutton
Re: Dutton award winner ?
It should be given to both. Shouldn't have to choose.

Re: Dutton award winner ?
While I have enjoyed watching Adams and Hart. All of Noah's accomplishments are spectacular, Hart is a four time state champion. Noah is "only" a three timer. I don't think Sutton should be based solely on that but brings an interesting wrinkle into it. Again either boy is very deserving. Is there any precedent of having co-champions?

Extremely reliable sources pass along this reminder:
The crux of the DUTTON AWARD is that it goes to the BEST WRESTLER In W.VA

The award has split before. Mike Mason and Doug Moore won in the same year.
With this senior class of Hart, Allmen and Adams I am glad I am not the one who has to pick one.

Re: Dutton award winner ?
Here is some trivia I will pile in on this topic:
1. There were three undefeated wrestlers this season. Noah Hodges, Cameron Pine and Noah Adams. I am uncertain on Hodges and Pine, but Adams beat 1-2 nationally ranked wrestlers in regular season. Jacob Hart was undefeated inside West Virginia.
2. Allman lost to Adams last season and lost to Hart this season.
3. Allman and Adams are the only wrestlers to pin their way through the state tournament. State Tournament Part 2 is pending.
4. Despite winning via decision (6 minutes) in the finals, Hart was on the mat the least amount of time. Allman = 11 minutes and 3 seconds (4 pins). Adams = 8 minutes and 50 seconds (4 pins). Hart = 8 minutes and 45 seconds (3 pins and one decision).
5. Noah Adams is the only wrestler to pin his way through both the regional and state tournament this season. State Tournament Part 2 is pending.

Adams is the best wrestler and the Dutton should go to the best.
Re: Dutton award winner ?
It has to go to Adams, he may be the best high school wrestler the state has ever seen.

I left this off from my notes. Adams also was the only wrestler to pin his way through the state tournament in 2016. So that is two seasons in a row with 8 pins in the state tournament. All three wrestlers have been a staple at the state tournament for four years. Based on the number of freshmen finalists/champions we had, we are reloading.

Re: Dutton award winner ?
I don't think it diminishes or is unfair to any other wrestler to say Adams is the best wrestler in the state. He has the national hardware to back it up. He passes the eyeball test when you watch his matches.
Its not even close guys. Pointing to him only having three titles sounds good at first. But the voters will know why he didn't have the fourth and are not going to ignore the obvious; he's the best wrestler in the state.

Re: Dutton award winner ?
No doubt this is a difficult choice but remember the season isn't over until State tourney is over. I don't think you can overlook Pine either.
Re: Dutton award winner ?
Adams is the Dutton award winner this year but he is not the best wrestler this state has ever seen .
Ken Chertow, Dylan Cottrel,Josh Fisher, Mitch Smith, Brandon Rader,
Chertow was a two time junier world champion in freestyle and greco pluss a olympic wrestler. .
Dont forget about the guys that paved the way.
Hopefully he will surpass all these guys but not yet.

With two 4x champs and 3x champ Noah Adams, this isnt a year where a 1x champ underclassman will get much of a look. Maybe next year.

Seriously, is this for real? If so, how can you even justify it against Adams or Hart?

Adams with out a doubt!
Re: Dutton award winner ?
It goes to the best wrestler; it's difficult choice but Pine has a unblemished undefeated record too!

easy choice for me

Vortexfan Please help me with understanding what you're saying here. You're really arguing that a 2x 5th placer, 1 time champ should be solidified as "the best wrestler in the state" instead of 2 four time champs or a three timer who also won the pan am games? Buddy I don't think you watched clearly the level of dominance that Adams and Hart showed this year inside of WV.
Adams breezed through the state tournament. Hart the same until the finals(which in my opinion hurts his chances of winning). And even Allman put on a show the entire tournament.

Re: Dutton award winner ?
What is the criteria? Is it best wrestler in the state this year? Or is it a cumulative career award. That changes the argument I think.
Re: Dutton award winner ?
I'm disappointed this is being discussed and there's several wrestlers still practicing and the season is not over yet. Is this award based on the performance just this year? Or is it a career award? There is no doubt Adams/Hart and Allman are well groomed to receive this award. What about Humohries? And Pine? I am not wanting to argue about it. How can u overlook an undefeated wrestler too?

"How can you overlook an undefeated wrestler too?"
It's great someone finishes undefeated. They deserve tremendous praise for their achievements. However, if is someone else is a multi time national champ, Flow champ, Pan Am Games champ/most outstanding wrestler, 2nd in the cadet world team trials, regularly ranked between #1-#5 nationally at his weight, etc. I wouldn't say anyone is overlooking the undefeated wrestler who doesn't have the same on his resume. Being undefeated is a big accomplishment. But sometimes someone else is simply a higher caliber wrestler at this point.

Re: Dutton award winner ?
Well it seems to me that Adams would be the undeniable first choice, this year. Accomplishment's this year are more than any other Wrestler in the state. If the award is based on four years of High School wrestling then he would win again. By the way Independence is not my team.
Re: Dutton award winner ?
I try to stay out of this because what we argue about on here will not choose the winner, but Noah Adams is also undefeated this season and has a Powerade title on his resume.
As deserving as any 4 time champion may be, I'm guessing Mr Adams wins the Dutton. He has worked hard and has the resume to back it.
We had the same situation back around 2012 when Dylan Cottrell, David Jeffrey and Adam Bicak were all 4 time champions. The winner, Dylan Cottrell, was unscored upon in 4 state tournaments. Probably something we will never see again.

I think Noah Adams should win the Dutton Award. His accomplishments over this past year are undisputable. He is a state, national and Pan Am (international) champion.

The only one that I didn't see wrestle in High School was Chertow. So I can't speak to him, but I have watch all of the other 4 wrestle in in high school and college. Out of that list I would say that Rader was the best or most dominant. Is Noah isn't the best, his name is def in the mix with this group for consideration (as far as high school accolades). So, I would say if his name is in the mix, he should be the clear Dutton Award winner.
