I was looking at some of the records listed in the matchups for this weekend and noticed some exceedingly high numbers. For instance, one boy has a record of 53-6 and could not have had more than 3 matches at regionals, making his season record 50-6.
According to my calculations, if you got the biggest bang for your buck in your weigh in points (a quad is one point and gets you 3 matches), the most you could have in a season is 54.
Do out of state meets not count toward our weigh ins? Do they count different? How is this many matches possible?
Maybe I just don't know the answer or there is something I'm overlooking.
Maximum Number of Matches in a Season
Re: Maximum Number of Matches in a Season
A tournament (5 teams or more participating) counts as 2 weighins.
You are allowed to wrestle 5 times in a day If a wrestler attends a 2 day dual tournament, they could get 10 matches on 2 weighins. Multiple 10 matches by 9 (18/2) tournaments, they could possibly get 90 matches in a season.

A two-day tournament counts as 4 points, right? Two-weigh ins with more than 4 teams attending.

Because it is the same tournament the second day weigh-in does not count against their allowed number of season weigh-ins. By definition, they do not need to weigh in the second day, but most tournaments do require that second day weigh in to make sure nobody is stepping on the mat to wrestler 113 when they weight 125.

Okay, thanks. I must have misread the pamphlet.

Have another question for this. What happens when a WV wrestler wrestles out of state, in a state that DOES NOT have the 5 match per day rule. Who has presidency, that state or the 5 match max per day rule?

5 match rule is NFHS, all states are supposed to follow the National Federation High School Rule.
