Re: WSAZ Seeds and Entries
Brice Pomeroy last years runner up 195 is bypassed by both Haynes (5th 2016), and Porter (non-placer at states).
Pomeroys only loss this year is against an out of state kid.
Based on Criteria, Pomeroy should be 2nd seed, 3rd at worse.

I immediately noticed Porter seeded ahead of Pomeroy. What is the seeding criteria? Did you attend the seeding meeting?

I think I would give up my fourth place seed and get thrown into the pool and hope to end up on the other side of the bracket away from Adams.

That one does seem odd. I noticed some others that left me scratching my head. I guess it is what it is.

Re: WSAZ Seeds and Entries
This looks like an incredible tournament to me. Some schools have 3 to 4 kids in the same weight class.
The 106lb weight class looks like the way of the future to me. Lets embrace the future instead of being in denial.
Based on some of these new kids in lower weight classes, I bet China One's sales are way down!!!!!

Holy smokes. Braxton Amos works out with a landmine now!!!!!!

Yeah didn't really follow criteria with high school or middle school

Or find another weight class.
Re: WSAZ Seeds and Entries
113 and 182 look to have some good battles
Re: WSAZ Seeds and Entries
I agree, especially 182. That weight class will be entertaining to watch.

Re: WSAZ Seeds and Entries
My observation is that Haynes and Porter both won good tournaments this weekend. Riverside was in one but Pomeroy did not wrestle. And Adams is best in that class.
Re: WSAZ Seeds and Entries
yea, the battle is for second, nobody beats Adams this year in my opinion
Re: WSAZ Seeds and Entries
In the past the staff who run the WSAZ tournament do the seeding. They will make phone calls to coaches if necessary or they need information not on WVMAT Scores. If a coach has a question about the seeding in a weight class concerning his wrestler the coach can contact the staff. They always made changes if I had adequate information and results.
As far as Haynes being higher than Pomeroy, my guess is because Haynes was 220 last season and Pomeroy was 195. I understand Porter was 195 as well so I'm not sure.
Wonder why everyone wants in the bottom bracket here?
Good luck to all the teams, fans, and staff at WSAZ this weekend. The weather looks Great!!

Re: WSAZ Seeds and Entries
I just noticed Connor Gibson seeded 4th at 138 behind two out of state fellows. I believe if I were him I'd give up my seed in hopes of landing in the bottom half of the bracket away from Humphreys, at least until the finals.

I believe you mean 145.
What is this idea of giving up ones seed? I do not believe one can opt to give up their seed. That would place others in the top bracket. Then what? Those others then opt to give up their seed? Where does it end? Would we have 1 person seeded and everyone opts to give up their seed and hopes to randomly get placed in the bottom half of the bracket? Thats a bit silly.

Re: WSAZ Seeds and Entries
My original post was not to complain, or to blast the seeding committee, but to merely point out that the Criteria in the case of 220 was not accurately followed. We will by no means dodge Adams. Though the outcome may not be what we would like, we will still wrestle. Of course we would prefer to see him in the finals. I do believe the correction will be made based on the guidelines found in the seeding criteria.
Thanks again to the committee members. Their job has got to be tough for a tournament as big as the WSAZ.
There will be great wrestling this weekend. Good luck to all the wrestlers and praying for all wrestlers to be injury free.

Re: WSAZ Seeds and Entries
Woops, I forget he's 145 now- But Gibson got the 2nd seed now, so no need to- but to be fair I think Gibson and Humphreys are a notch above the rest of that field for the most part (Humphrey being a notch above Gibson), although I haven't seen Starkey or the out of state wrestlers this year. Therefore giving up his seed would land him with a path to the finals to see Humphreys there instead of the semis, I'd say after the next couple of guys gave up a seed it would cease to make much of a difference and be a matter of picking your poison with one hammer in each half of the bracket, but I don't really know how 'giving up one's seed' would work or if it's even a thing, I was simply expressing my opinion that Gibson and Humphreys are a clear top 2 in that weight class IMO, and as such aught to meet in the finals.

All this uncertainty and confusion could be eliminated if a " Pill" were used.

The John Hardin kid is a 2016 Nationals All-American. Not sure I would start looking to the finals for a Conner and Josh match quite yet.

Hm, I was unaware of the Hardin kids credentials- any chance you know which national tournament, and if it's NHSCA what grade level? That would certainly affect my prediction, if he was a Freshman National AA I think I still like Gibson, but I suppose it may have been a foregone conclusion. Should be a good match in the semi's, then!
