Re: Reclassification
It is my understanding that wrestling will stay AAA & AA-A for the time being with some schools possibly moving up and others moving down. Additionally, being that they just finished the girls state basketball tournament and are in the middle of the boys state basketball tournament I do not expe...

There's a few at PHS that come to mind: Myers, McDonald and Cooper

AA/A State Tournament Brackets
I have asked the WV MAT Admin to upload the 2024 State Wrestling Tournament Schedule. The file was too large for me to be able to do so as a user.

Re: AAA State Tournament Brackets
Have they posted a schedule for states yet? The schedule is the same w/the exception of the girls being wrestled on Saturday simultaneously as the boys. More than likely there will be a mat layout difference than there typically has been in the past due to the addition of the girls and the number o...

Last Day to Register: Girls State Tournament
Coaches, today is the last day to get your ladies registered for the girls division. I'm being told that there are over 115 girls registered to date. Can we make it to 150? I sure hope so.

Region 1 A/AA
If there is something in the works, I would like to know what it is because I have heard nothing. I do not anticipate wrestling going to 4 classifications, but there could be other options that have not been discussed since the 4 classification system has been implemented in some of the other sports.

Re: Last Man Standing aka Last Chance Qualifier
Just curious bearhugger when was the last time wv had a bye at the state tournament and how many years in a row has it been.i didn't know this was a ongoing problem and not a new one. I do happen to see that the 2016 tournament had 38 teams and than 2017 only had 29. I think regionals is a good pla...

Re: Region 1 A/AA
According to the coaches poll, there are 6 weight classes with 5 or more Region 1 wrestlers ranked in the top 10 in the entire state (120[6], 126[6], 132[6], 138[5], 144[5], and 165[5]). This means there will be at least 9 top-ten wrestlers in A/AA who won't even qualify, and the State Tournament w...

High School Girls State Tournament
Coaches, This is your reminder that if you have a girl that wishes to compete in the girls only tournament, she will need to make that decision prior to the boys regional and cannot compete in the boys regionals. Should you have any questions feel free to contact me at either the email or cell phone...

Eligible for weight classes
I always thought a two class bump allowance was something that could be looked at. It may give teams the ability to better fill all their weight classes for dual meets. Back in the day, before the 215 weight class, 190 pounders could wrestle 285, and many of them held their own there. Always fun to...

Re: Eligible for weight classes
There has been some coaches giving wrong information about how much you have to weigh to be in that weight class. Can't believe coaches don't know. Example. A kid weighs 150.1 before the weight allowance is considered to be a 157 pounder. That being said he CAN wrestle in the 165 lb weight class. A...

Eligible for weight classes
At no point is a wrestler ever permitted to wrestle more than one weight class up from the weight class that their actual weight permits them to wrestler at the time of weigh-ins. If WRESTLER A weighs in at 156.8 he/she is only permitted to wrestler 157 and 165. At not point since I have been involv...

Separating #1 and #2
KDunbar you are correct. Regardless of which region you are in the 2nd and 3rd place finishers in the same region will be on the same side of the bracket and opposite of their regional champion. Additionally, if there is not a clear cut ranked #2 I believe the intention is to leave that weight class...

WSAZ Numbers by Weight Class
We are going to keep an eye on this for a couple years and make adjustments if necessary.
Coaches and tournament directors please keep notes on this for a future data call.
This will assist in determining if and where adjustments need to be made moving forward.
Thanks
Jeremy Callen

The NFHS has not approved official video review for regular or post season competitions. There has been a requested rule change submitted yearly by different states to adopt official video review but it keeps getting voted down by the NFHS committee members. In addition video review equipment is exp...

Re: Duals, Quads, and Tri's
Most events that I have attended charge a admission fee to those that are attending the event. Use that money to cover most if not all of the official(s) cost.
