Re: 24/25 outlook

Punt years can work for certain teams, Penn State did one in 2014/2015 and I know Ohio State has done it previously as well. However, even when "punting" these teams are very competitive. (Penn State still finished 6th overall). The question would be, if WVU were to try a punt year would i...

It also looks like a few other WVU wrestlers will be join in the action w/ newcomer Tommy Maddox also competing at 135. It could also be coach vs. wrestler at 185 w/ Muhammed McBryde and Brian Finnerty entered there. Finally, there are a pair of WVU boys at 199 in Ian Bush and Cole Tolley (who I am ...

I have been hearing some numbers for NIL that just seem ridiculous, I would love to know if these numbers are for real. Is there anyone who knows a wrestler personally or their family that can confirm some of these numbers? No need for names etc just confirmed NIL in dollars. I certainly do not kno...

Re: WVU recruiting

We all worry about a solid lineup from top to bottom, myself included, Duals are fun and help a school get ranked etc. But the truth is a program is judged by their point total at the end of the NCAA tourney. WVU finished 17th but all of those points except for 1/2 of a point were scored by 2 guys....

Re: NCAA Brackets

I agree, overall I think WVU's spots in the bracket are as good as you could hope for at NCAAs. It certainly puts all of the guys in places where they have a change to make a run. Will assuming the best is optimistic, if you would have said a few years ago you could even optimistically argue WVU had...

Re: WV State Duals & Parkersburg

I agree the State Dual Champions is currently, oddly done and likely no the best system. It would fit better at the end of the year considering that years results. Similarly, based on what Parkersburg is doing it is a true shame they wont have the opportunity to compete as they are making a strong c...

Re: Oklahoma Dual

That was a wild dual to watch, and frustrating in alot of spaces, but as I said earlier it was a fun one to watch. I agree with alot of above, alot of ups and downs for WVU. Much of this did not go the way I thought. I also agree the ref seemed to not be giving WVU any calls. Whenever there is a str...

I agree, while I still say wait to see, in my mind WVU is actually the favorite in this dual. Even if not, there will be a few really nice match-up that will tell us were some of WVU's guys are at. Matches are assumed to be below based on Oklahoma's last lineup, with my predictions: 125: Strickenber...

Re: WVU Quad on YouTube

I think WVU's preformance over these last 4 duals has been overall impressive. While beating teams like Ohio, Duke, Kent St., and Clarion should be expected of WVU, the fact that for the most part they were relatively dominant is a positive sign. Of course there were some disappointments. However, 3...

Re: WV D1 Roll Call

Do I wish more of these great WV wrestlers stayed home and went to WVU? Of course I do. However, realistically a percentage will go elsewhere simply because they desire to go elsewhere. Some of that is due to WVUs limited success (for instance you cannot say with Gage Wright that VT is not a better ...

Re: Bear Tracks - 120 to 126 Edition 1

Has Garcia beaten Cook this season? If not Cook should be ahead of him based on last year! Garcia finished 5th in the states. Cook made it to the blood round. Garcia begins the season ranked higher than Cook. Both schools have a dual on February 4th. They might meet before that. At the state tourna...

I think you have to be pleased with WVU and what you have seen so far. There are still questions, but whoever gets the start there are some young guys showing real promise right out of the gate. Titus, Conley, etc. Additionally, there seem to be some new additions to the team that have made improvem...

WVU needs a 197. He could give WVU an immediate national champion. Also make the home matches fun to watch. If the stuff they are saying about him and his brother is true, Flynn wouldn’t want nothing to do with him. The 197 they picked up, Cooley, took 5th at U23s.. not saying he’s the same caliber...

Re: Tournaments- Dual vs Individual

There is no one answer to this question. Dual tournaments offer a unique ability to get in 5 matches in a single day or 8-9 in two. Whereas with a tournament you are lucky to get 4-5 in multiple days. It also gives you a better opportunity to see a wide range of competition over those matches. Most ...

I believe that had several wrestlers advance and win matches. I know one lost in the bloodround and was understandably upset. He took several actions that the ref took team points for and ultimately was ejected from the tournament (thus they lost all of the points he had gained up to that point). Re...

Re: AAA Decision Making 101 - 182 vs 195 in Region 4

AAA 182 at the state tournament is going to be crazy. Given results, 1-6 could win the tournament completely or even face not placing giving the quality of 7-8. And those are just the guys everyone really knows about. This will certainly be a fun and competitive one.

Should be a split bracket tournament. Loser in the first round are shifted to a new bracket and begin wrestling again. Winners move forward and basically operates as a normal tournament from there. Usually they place out to top 6.

Re: New State Tournament format

I think the point here is that this rule change is not going to be used in every weight class, every single time. This is a rule of obviousness to a degree. If there are 3-4 guys who have beaten each other or are relatively close this rule is not coming into effect. Its for years and weights where t...

Re: How important is a wrestling club for recruiting?

I think we need more than asking if a senior level club is important for recruiting. Plenty of schools have senior level clubs and are no noticeably better or worse off for them. What is important is having a well developed, successful senior level club. This proves success and support; as well as, ...

It also doesnt help that every year there is such uncertainty about who will be attending. Its hard to leave space in your schedule, allocate resources for travel, hotels, etc. if you are so uncertain. There needs to be a defined criteria for who is qualified and going that can be established early ...

I think unfortunately this is a trend across high school wrestling. Our match statistics showed at one point that we won like 70+% of matches by pins, but conversely lost nearly 60% by pin. There are a number of reasons why I believe. In any event I agree, when I wrestled if people got pinned the te...
