Re: Cancellations for this weekend?
The weekend before the state would be a good time for everyone to reschedule these events. Since this was the worst decision that the WVSSAC made to have the regionals 2 weeks before the state take advantage of this time to have your tournaments!!! Only because I want to make sure about this... onc...

This is a clarification from Dr. Welker's "Making the Call" about 1/3 of the way down the page. http://www.wvmat.com/official/official.htm Q:As a followup to the previous question, a wrestler has wrestled 145 and on occasion moved up during dual meets. What happens if he weighs in with th...

Re: Can't Ignore the Numbers
I don't know how familiar you are with the current economic climate in West Virginia, but times are tough and the school systems have all taken hits, you can't just make money magically appear. Many schools are struggling just to stay open, much less pay coaches big salaries. On top of that who rea...

Weight Class Rules
Hey all. For some time, I've been under the impression that a wrestler may not wrestle more than two weight classes below their highest officially wrestled match. For instance, if a kid wrestles heavyweight, they may not wrestle 195 later. However, I attempted to find this rule in the NFHS handbook ...

Administration can’t fix no applicants. Parents knew the coach was moving up with his son. No one stepped up. Supply and demand. Administration should offer a better salary to attract another worthy coach or coach the team themselves. 6.4.a. The coach is employed under a contract with a county boar...

I read your whole post. You definitely did the right thing. If people can't see that, they're just looking for something to talk about. Keep doing what you're doing and pushing our great sport forward. Unfortunately, it is very common for a doctor to diagnose HSV-1 as impetigo. I recommend to everyo...

Re: Rankings Mean Nothing In Mingo County
Once again we have a gentleman making the journey to Huntington all alone. Congratulations to Mingo Central's 170 Corey Smith for grabbing a ticket to Huntington. Mr. Smith was seeded 4th. He met up with the #1 seed and region 4's only ranked 170 pound wrestler in the semi finals and won. Good job!...

Re: Maximum Number of Matches in a Season
A tournament (5 teams or more participating) counts as 2 weighins. You are allowed to wrestle 5 times in a day If a wrestler attends a 2 day dual tournament, they could get 10 matches on 2 weighins. Multiple 10 matches by 9 (18/2) tournaments, they could possibly get 90 matches in a season. A two-d...

Maximum Number of Matches in a Season
I was looking at some of the records listed in the matchups for this weekend and noticed some exceedingly high numbers. For instance, one boy has a record of 53-6 and could not have had more than 3 matches at regionals, making his season record 50-6. According to my calculations, if you got the bigg...

Re: New High School State Tournament Format
Great questions. I'm sure if you truly want answers, I would ask the AD's or each school for a financial break down. If it's the WVSSAC who receives the money, ask them. Both are government entities and bound by law to release financials upon request. Don't get me wrong. I like the idea myself. I g...

Re: The State of West Virginia Wrestling
I'm surely no economist and on the topic of adjusting regions I've got no real solution but regarding the success of wrestling I think the answer is fairly simple. I say this because it works for us and many others. The SSAC needs to relax the rules limiting coaching out of season and use of facili...

Re: All class, why not
Rage bear. Good points. We are not even close to the population of NY or Cali. So one class makes more sense for us. I don't care about D1 recruiting.....that happens at national events. I just think it would make for a better/more interesting state tournament. In my initial posting, I was referenc...

Re: All class, why not
I should have clarified that I was advocating for a 32 man bracket, and 8 placewinners from the beginning. I guess it seemed obvious to me , but it was not so to others. In my mind's eye, I didn't see that you meant it. That would be far better than just a 16 man bracket, or even smaller if it's li...

Re: All class, why not
I posted this in another thread. We can still keep our schools' classifications as A/AA/AAA but have 1 tournament. If there were only 4 regions and we put all the schools together, there would be 24 teams in each region. Now you have a 32 man bracket for the regional tournament and a means to allow...

Re: All class, why not
Too easy, and too effective. I really don't get how anyone could rebel against the concept. Going to all class would make a more competitive, prestigious tournament that would draw D1 scouts. Too many great wrestlers from WV never get a shot because no D1 coaches or scouts know their name. When you...

Re: AA/A Individual Rankings Stat of the Day
Well, there are 67 AA/A teams, 29 of which are single A, however not all single A teams listed actually have a team. St. Joe Central and Meadow Bridge do not have teams, I don't think Man has a team yet either, and Bishop Donahue has no mention of a wrestling team on their list of offered athletics...

not being out of line or trying to insult anyone but I understand what coach was saying. A tec fall is in the opinion of most the worst way to lose. A tec fall means you had no shot of winning the match. I have seen several wrestlers who were better than their opponents get pinned but in that case ...
