Re: The best 4 time state champions
Andy Thomas was one of the most dominant wrestlers I ever watched. He's gotta be one of the best four timers. The Easter brothers were tough as well One stat that has to be a record is Zach Frazier was only taken down once in his whole high school career If true …That kinda makes one think he shoul...

Re: AA/A ranked wrestlers per region
Last year Herbert Hoover (Region 3) and Braxton County (Region 2) finished ahead of both Oak Glen (Region 1) and Berkley Springs (Region 1) in the State Tournament. So what's your point? It goes in cycles. What's your solution to "evening out" the regions? There's no doubt that Region 1 i...

To Answer the original question KDunbar said Fairmont Senior has never been a powerhouse of a program and people started going after him. But the guy is completely wrong. Fairmont Senior, as well as East Fairmont, and North Marion have all shown dominance in the sport. Wood County has the most state...

Re: AA/A ranked wrestlers per region
The whole point that a/aa region one is much tougher to qualify for the state tournament. I have seen no argument that disputes this. Actually I believe the point was to imply that wrestlers from R2, R3 and R4 are not as worthy of being at states as R1 wrestlers. That is the way it came off anyway....

Lloyd Christmas wrote:Heck region 1 had a ranked returning state placer not make the state tourney this year. Obviously he would have won some matches had he won in the blood round. It is not always a blowout from 1st and 2nd place. Wrestle back points often can make or break a tournament winning team.

Re: New Classification
Some are gonna benefit from this new classification and some will Lose. Some won’t matter really. In my opinion, if the schools get classified the same as listed, then the only teams that benefit are the A@AA teams. Winning a championship becomes much easier, having taken away most of the better pr...

Re: AA/A ranked wrestlers per region
Yea teams are going to have to travel its just how it is, but what made region1 unbalanced in the first place was when Marion County went AA and all three schools joined. Then it got ridiculously unbalanced when Berkley Springs, Petersburg, and Keyser all joined later on. Last classification they sk...

Re: New Classification
Having multiple classes definitely diminishes things, look at VA, 6 classes and 6 championships per sport. How about reconfigure the way the current classes are and not allow schools to play the number games to fit whatever it is they want. I think 4 classes is needed in football, however I'm all f...

New Classification
In March the SSAC is meeting to look into making Football and other sports into 4 classes. There's a great possibility they're going to keep the State Wrestling Tournament into 2 classes but with AAAA-AAA & AA-A. If this happens, it'll definitely change the landscape of wrestling. For Example, P...

Re: AA/A ranked wrestlers per region
They've never been balanced, if Point Pleasant or Independence were in Region 1 the last 10 years, I'd love to know how many wrestlers they would've brought to Huntington year in and year out. And yes I'm saying the southern regions are weaker than hell

WSAZ's get so much special attention on this website, and its wild. In my opinion there are two other tournaments that are just a tough or tougher. Re: Weight Classes
You're spot on. Losing the 182lb weight class puts a damper on a lot of potential football players wrestling. Honestly I don't understand why there isn't a weight class in-between 215lb-285lb, if you look in schools today they're more big kids than ever before. Look at high school football rosters ...

My sons team has 5-6 kids 190 - 300 lbs on the team. All with a desire to wrestle. 18 or so kids on the team total..... 30% of the team competing for 3 spots. Exactly this a prime example. The worst part is wrestling benefits offensive and defensive linemen (aka the big boys) the most in football. ...

Re: 2023 Returning AA Placewinners by Region
I'm just having fun. You had 256255 examples supporting region 1. Now you have at least 1 to support region 4. Region 4 has Point Pleasant and that's about it. Nitro, Wirt, Winfield, and Sissonville will have a handful of good wrestlers every year but other than that, that's about it. Its a cakewal...

It just determines what teams are there, there have been years where WSAZ was tougher than states, and Winners Choice, but there have also been years where Winners Choice was tougher than states as well as WSAZs. I can say this year WSAZ's was tougher than states and WC. However, If OVAC doesn't hap...
